He questioned about every possible thing he could and deduct every thing to the minimum posible answer. Because of this he created the methodic doubt.
Using this method he achieved a conclusion: we think, therefore we exist. He questioned about the existance of human and our purpose in earth. What do we do etc.. so he is considered the first existentialist. At his time he wasn't so famous on the contrary he was a bit rejected by people because of his thoughts and how he explained things. Just after his dead he became famous and everone wanted to read Descartes
